Marina High Alumni Beach Party - July 28th, 2018

Event Coordinators: Patrick Knowles, Rick Tobin, and Amy Mason

On Saturday, July 28th, 2018 at 10 am, we will be holding our 8th annual Marina High Alumni Beach Party for all class years at the Bolsa Chica State Beach near Lifeguard Tower 26 in Huntington Beach, and right adjacent to the Sea Legs at the Beach restaurant and bar. This location is approximately a few hundred yards south of Jack in the Box, which is near the corner of Warner and PCH. The party may last until 8 pm or later. The party is FREE to attend.

Here is a drone video taken at the 2016 Beach Party by Michael Sola which also includes a large number of photos from the party:

In 2018, the Class Years of '68, '73, '78, '83, '88, and other years may be scheduling either mini-reunions or more formal events. If these class years plan on holding their individual class reunions within the Beach Party as either their main reunion event or as a portion of their weekend reunion event, please let us know so that we may coordinate and market the events together.

At the past Marina Beach Party gatherings, there were several hundred people in attendance throughout the day representing at least 30+ different class years.

PLEASE LOOK FOR THE BLUE AND YELLOW SURFBOARD, various tents, and Marina High signs and banners. *** Our Superstar Party DJ is Chris Twining (MHS '82) who plays music from the '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, and the more modern eras.

PARKING INFORMATION: There is free parking north of Jack in the Box in Sunset Beach, and paid gated parking for $7.50 (disabled), $14 (senior), and $15 (general) in the adjacent lot several hundreds yards south. The earlier you arrive, the better the parking options will be on that same day.

ALL ALCOHOL must be hidden from view, and people must drink at their own risk on the beach. THIS EVENT IS 100% SOLO CUP FREE. Do not bring or use any Solo type plastic cups. Alcoholic beverages are illegal on all California State Beach Property as has been the case for a few decades. It is a ticketable offense, and the HB Beach Patrol did check last year. There are restaurants, bars, and hotels within a short walking distance of the party location which may be alternative options.

Please do not drink and drive, regardless!!! Each guest is responsible for their own actions if they decide to attend this free public event.

*** Please let us know if you are bringing a motorhome or RV so that we may try to line them up adjacent to the Beach Party site. The length limit for a motorhome or RV is 40 feet. Parking fees for motorhomes and RVs may vary between $22.50 and $30 (disable, senior, or general parking fees).

All former Marina High Alumni, family, and friends are invited. Once you receive this invitation, you may then forward to other Marina friends and family. We also welcome current and former Marina High staff.

There will be tinfoil, BBQ utensils and paper plates, silverware and napkins for your use as well as salt, pepper, mayo, ketchup, mustard and relish. BBQs must be at least 18 inches off of the sand. Due to recent beach law changes, no charcoal is allowed for these BBQs on the sand. Many of our guests over the years have also set up BBQs next to their cars, RVs, or motorhomes in the parking lot.

THE PARTY WILL BE POTLUCK FOR SIDE AND MAIN DISHES AND DESSERTS. Please bring a dish to share like potato & macaroni salads, pasta salads, green salads, pizza, fish tacos, kabobs, burgers, guacamole, fruits and veggies, chips & salsa, crackers, cookies, brownies, and other treats.

We also suggest that guests consider bringing chairs, portable stereos, towels, natural sunblock, hats, and fun things for the kids. Please remember to bring WARM clothes and blankets if you plan to stay for the bonfire since it may get cold when the sun goes down.
